PSHE & RSE
Relationships and Sex Education
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is a planned programme that helps children learn about the emotional, social, and physical aspects of growing up. It teaches pupils about healthy relationships, respect, caring, and personal boundaries, supporting them to understand themselves and others. RSE helps children develop the knowledge and skills they need to form positive and safe relationships throughout their lives.
At Newton Primary School, RSE is delivered alongside the PATHS programme to complement social-emotional learning. Lessons are age-appropriate and cover topics such as friendships, family relationships, communication, and self-respect. As children grow, they also learn about puberty, changes in their bodies, consent, and staying safe online and in the wider world. These lessons help pupils build confidence, empathy, and the ability to make informed decisions.
By working alongside PATHS, RSE supports both emotional and social development, helping children navigate relationships and personal challenges positively. The programme equips pupils not only for school life but also for their future, promoting wellbeing, confidence, and respect for themselves and others.
