Headteacher Welcome

Headteacher Welcome

A warm welcome from our Headteacher, Mrs Chisnall.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your child from Newton Primary School and thank you for considering us as your school of first choice.

I am privileged to have been appointed as Headteacher from October 2020 and I am both excited and enthusiastic about what the future holds for all of us. I know, and understand, that you and your child will be at times apprehensive about deciding which school you should choose for the next step in their education but I can reassure you that Newton Primary School is full of staff and pupils who will make the journey and transition as smooth and easy as possible. Rest assured that despite this being a time of change for everyone, the skills and experiences of the school and its staff will help your child quickly settle into normal school life here, should you make us your first choice.

You are coming at a time when ‘normal’ is totally different to what we had all expected and the school, over the latter half of the academic year, has undergone significant change and adaptation, to firstly ensure the safety and welfare of all staff and pupils whilst giving everyone the best possible education. These changes will continue to be reviewed and adapted in order to offer your child the best opportunity to succeed and achieve their full potential until such time as ‘normality is resumed’.

As a school that serves not only its local, but also the wider community, we strive to ensure that we give your child the best learning experiences possible, not only in their time in our Early Years setting, but through into Year 6. It is our belief that every child can progress and achieve, and we make no excuses for having high aspirations and expectations of our pupils. We have no doubt that they will be both happy and successful whilst they are with us.

Our ambition is clear in our motto – ‘Nurture the Potential to Succeed.’ Underpinning our motto are our school values which we refer to as STRIVE.
They are:

Self-motivation

Teamwork

Resilience

Independence

Vision

Emotional Intelligence

We believe these 6 values (STRIVE) help us toNurture the Potential to Succeed’ and help to develop the whole child into a well-rounded future citizen with a determination to improve the world in which we live. We promote our values throughout the school from Nursery to Reception, through to Year 6.

The staff here at Newton Primary School are fully committed to giving your child the best possible opportunities to achieve their ambitions, whatever they may be! Our staff get to know each child as an individual, so they can have high aspirations and expectations of ALL pupils whatever their start point, to encourage them to succeed.

We facilitate this through a broad and balanced curriculum and further enrich our curriculum with a wide range of trips, educational visits, residential stays, school events and after school clubs that nurture the diverse talents of our pupils. As a school, we have been recognised for our excellence and work by achieving an accreditation for art, science, maths, music and PE.

We are passionate about our wider offer and that includes pastoral needs. As part of our caring staff team, we have a fantastic pastoral manager who can support children with their wider needs.

As a special message to those considering our nursery provision, we offer a flexible offer of 15 or 30 hour funded places as well as a paid wrap around provision for those who need it. This provision is called ‘Early Birds and Night Owls’ (our Before and After School Club, which is accessible for all children from Nursery – Year 6 subject to availability).

You as parents/carers will understand that an education however cannot be undertaken in isolation and we would encourage you to play a full part in your child’s schooling and undertake a positive and

pro-active role in supporting them and the school in order to make this happen. Support for your child and the school on issues such as attendance, uniform, behaviour, home learning and attitude to learning is a partnership that we need to develop with you, and it is of paramount importance for the success of your child.

The current pandemic is unfortunately preventing me from showing off our wonderful school and whilst we cannot meet ‘face to face’, we hope the information we are providing via our school website provides you with a taster of what Newton Primary can offer your child and give you an insight into our school.

If you do have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact the school, where a member of staff will be in touch with you as soon as they can.
