At Newton-le-Willows Primary School and Nursery we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children and families. The following letter provides information should you have a concern about a child, vulnerable adult or family member during the current school closures.


Safeguarding Children - Taking Action on Concerns


Key points to remember for taking action if you have a concern about a child are;


In an emergency take the action necessary to help the child, for example, call 999.

If at any point there is a risk of immediate serious harm to a child a referral should be made to Children’s Social care immediately. Anybody can make the referral. Call The Contact Centre on 01744 676600.  Or in the case of an emergency outside normal office hours (after 5pm) you can contact the Emergency Duty Team on 0345 050 0148.


Serious safeguarding concerns should be reported on the above telephone numbers.  The schools Safeguarding Team will also access the schools secure email for safeguarding (Monday – Friday 9 am – 5 pm) we kindly ask parents and carers to report non – urgent concerns using the above email address first, leaving a contact number for a member of the Safeguarding Team to contact you on.  If you have no internet access the Safeguarding Team are available on the following mobile numbers 07745791095 or 07395944836 during the hours of (Monday – Friday 9 am – 5 pm).

The school are currently working closely with the Local Authority, Government, local businesses and the foodbank to look at a plan for supporting our families who may be experiencing difficulties with essential food and household items, financial issues and utility issues.  More information will follow shortly.

Safeguarding Adult support –

You may be concerned about what somebody tells you or you may see or hear something that concerns you about a vulnerable adult. Report suspected abuse by calling 01744 676600 until 5 pm daily and Emergency Duty Team 08450500148.

During the current period of school closures we are aware that possibly many children maybe spending increased time using devices which connect to the internet. We are delighted to announce that National Online Safety have just released their brand-new platform, and as a Certified School – our whole school community has now received a complimentary upgrade to their new website.

If you already have a National Online Safety account, you’ll shortly receive an email inviting you to activate your new account- providing access to the new platform. The new platform will include your Online Safety Course for Parents and Carers and National Online Safety’s Resources (which includes a huge range of online platform guides on the latest social media channels and games).
